Bert Waggott
Adjunct Professor
Since joining the Pratt faculty in 1960, Bert Waggott has taught classes in the art of the book, typography, and design procedures, and coordinated design and production for student letterpress publications of the Pratt Adlib Press and the professional printmaking publication Artist’s Proof. As a printmaker specializing in woodcut, exhibitions include the Society of American Graphic Artists; Museum of Contemporary Crafts; Amerika Haus and Kunstgewerbemuseum, Stuttgart; Brooklyn Museum; Xylon International, Switzerland; American Color Print Society; and his work is represented in the Library of Congress permanent print collection. Graphic design clients include: The Juilliard School, The New York Public Library, Industrial Design Society of America, New-York Historical Society, Anna Sokolow Dance Company, Jules Fisher Lighting Design, John Houseman's The Acting Company, New York City Ballet, Riverside Symphony. A Fulbright grant to study graphic design and ceramics at the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts in Germany followed his BFA in Design from Syracuse University, and he subsequently received an MFA in Design from CarnegieMellon.
Bert teaches Design Procedures currently; in these classes subtle stress is given to integrating word and image, and to the art of the book.
